A beautiful antique wood Coat Rack made from antique Ironwood Railroad Ties. This extremely strong wood has aged beautifully and has a heavy wood grain from years of exposure as a an Indonesian railroad tie. This coat rack has 3 heavy iron double hooks for hanging.
The railroad ties were laid across Indonesia in the early 18th-19th century and made of ironwood. The railroad ties were not treated, as they were in the USA. As the old railroad ties are removed and replaced with concrete, the old ties are commonly used for furniture production.
Arizona Desert Ironwood (Olneya Tesota) is one of the rarest, most beautiful and most expensive timbers in the world, it is also the most stable. The desert ironwood tree is one of the world's oldest living things and very protected today. Some living examples germinated around the time of the Saxon invasion of England in the 4th century and would have already been five hundred years old by the time of the Norman invasion.
