Ancient Extinct Plant Fossil Displayed on a 24K Gold Plated Stand
A rare find! This is a wonderful fragment of an ancient plant fossil in porous rock. A beautiful and distinct
plant fossil imprint that is clear and crisp. Impressions of ancient plant parts are flattened,
but all of the original plant material has decayed away. Only the shape or texture of the plant remains, pressed into the mud or sand.
Bark is often preserved as an impression.
This fossil is a Carboniferous Lycophytes, an extinct group of plants.
Lycophyte fossils may be found in rocks that were deposited during both the Pennsylvanian and Permian Periods, but are most commonly associated with coal seams (above, below, or in) where preservation occurred as natural impressions, compressions, casts or molds.
Fossils of lycophytes are among the most common plant fossils collected in Oklahoma.
