Francis Orpen Morris (1810 - 1893) was a clergyman with a passion for nature and heritage buildings.
Morris studied Classics at Oxford University, where he read Pliny's Natural History. He helped organise the insect collection in Oxford's Ashmolean Museum.
Whilst a clergyman, he devoted his leisure time to writing about British birds, butterflies and stately homes.
Morris worked with Benjamin Fawcett, a local printer, and Alexander Lydon, an artist. Fawcett was probably the best nineteenth century woodblock colour printers.
