This is a vintage French Grain Sack from the 1940's or 50's. It is printed with the words "Triture Soufre Impalpable" which translates sulphur.
It is from the French wine country area of Saint Chinian. Formerly a textile region for centuries, over time, the economy in this charming area began to shift towards agriculture, focusing on grain, olive trees, oil-related professions and, of course, vines and wine. In 1880, the textile industry died out and gave way to wine production. The old mills and workshops were replaced by small wine-growing businesses, sulphur mills or distilleries.
The Grain Sack is in excellent condition and is very clean and odor free. This large grain sack has no holes or other blemishes. It has the lovely original yarn stitching at the seams. Many people use vintage grain sacks for pillow covers or upholstery. You could easily get several pillow covers out of this one grain sack.
A great find!!

I love this grain sack, which I have on the back of a chair but might make into throw pillows. It is fabulous. Sue
