A wonderful find! An original oil on linen by the Hungarian artist Laszlo Neogrady. This painting is dated from the 1920's and has it's original hand painted wood frame.
The canvas is in exceptional condition. The frame has it's tiny surface checking given it's age and this adds to the beauty of the framing. This piece is a one of a kind and very collectible.
This painting was offered in my grandfather's art store in Chicago Illinois back in the early 1950's. It has stayed in our family since it was painted.
Laszlo Neogrady was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1896. He was the son of the artist Anatal Neogrady and he studied painting at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts under the artist Ede Ballo.
From 1922 Laszlo Neogrady exhibited his work at the Hungarian Art Gallery. He specialized in painting naturalistic landscapes many of which depicted forest scenes in the snow. These works are highly sought after and can be found in collections throughout the world. The artist's extensive use of impasto creates an almost three dimensional effect in these works. His use of light is unusually dramatic and his landscapes are very atmospheric and mesmerizing.
The artist died on 27th August, 1962.
