Reserved for Scott ~ Rare European Antique Roe Deer Desk Set with Letter Opener
This set is a real prize for the collector of rare things. This is a lovely handmade antique writing desk set with a
quill pen and a bronze letter opener and two glass inkwells. The detailing in antler is amazing. This set probably originates in Germany or Great Britain from the late 1800's.
There are tiny cut pieces of antler made into feet for this set and a carved piece of antler forms a tray for the quill pen.
The antler is from the Roe Deer species that is found across Europe.
The European roe deer also known as the western roe deer, or chevreuil, is a Eurasian species of deer. The roe deer is relatively small, reddish and grey-brown, and well-adapted to cold environments. The species is widespread in Europe. The mature bucks have small bony antlers with rich mahogany colors. This desk set features a large buck skull as it's centerpiece.
We have added a large feather to complete the look.
One can only imagine who has used this piece throughout the many years and what desks it has graced.
