An amazing and rare brass beam scale from John White & Son Circa 1750 -1800. Beautiful in every way, this fine scale exudes fine antique craftsmanship and an elegance all on it's own. The scale is made from lacquered brass and iron with a fabulous patina. The porcelain plate is original and has the inscription of John White & Son Auchtermuchty. The beam is stamped with 'Patent Agate Balance' and the words 'Glascow Hadley & Vincent Makers'.
The amazing story of Auchtermuchty Scotland based John White & Son (Weighing Machines) Ltd began in 1715 when blacksmith John White made a “particularly fine” beam end scale. Now, in its eighth generation of change and innovation, the business continues under managing director Edwin White, his wife and fellow director Tio White, and their loyal workforce.
The scale also has seven lacquered brass weights from 1 pound, 8 ounces, 4 ounces, 2 ounces, 1 ounce, 1/2 ounce and 1/4 ounce
measures.
A phenomenal find and in exceptional condition. A wonderful addition to any antique scale collection.
