A magnificent Collector's specimen of the Regal Spiny Oyster mounted on a 24K Gold Plated Display stand.
Spiny oysters form their own species, distinct from oysters. They are more closely related to the scallops, but again form their own distinct family. Like the oyster, they cement themselves to rocks. Their most distinctive feature are their spiny shells. But they also have a ball and socket joint to hold the two halves of their shell together. This is unlike scallops, clams, or oysters, which have a toothed joint. They also have numerous rudimentary eyes which are scattered around the edge of their shells. Origin West Pacific.
This display stand is made of solid brass which has been 24K gold plated. To clean and polish the surface we suggest you use a good silver polish on clean soft cloth. DO not, under any circumstances, use a brass cleaner as this will destroy the gold.
