Collector's Specimen Chiragra Spider Conch with 24K Gold Plated Display Stand
This is a collector's specimen Chiragra Spider Conch with a 24K gold plated display stand.
This Conch is a large, thick, and heavy shell with an inflated body whorl and a short spire. The projections are so massively developed around the edge of the aperture that it is difficult to see the spire. The apex is sharply pointed and all the whorls are angulated.
Like most spider conchs, the Chiragra is a thick sea shell with fingerlike projections extending outward. The female sea shells aperture is pale pink and the two shoulder "fingers" are larger than the others. The males sea shells "fingers" are all about the same, but the aperture is more brightly colored. This seashell is common to Eastern Indian Ocean to Polynesia. This seashell is found in shallow waters and measures approx 7" - 8".
This display stand is made of solid brass which has been 24K gold plated. To clean and polish the surface we suggest you use a good silver polish on clean soft cloth. DO not, under any circumstances, use a brass cleaner as this will destroy the gold.
